The 80-20 Rule: Nicole Kidman’s Secret to Staying Fit Sounds Way Too Easy!

While we would like to imagine that celebrities have been blessed with an awesome physique and naturally gorgeous features, we should also take into consideration the hard work and effort in making sure they stay in the best shape of their lives.

Luckily for us, some of these celebrities aren’t too keen on hiding their secrets from the public, but what’s unfortunate is that their routines and diet plans aren’t easy to follow — especially if you’re on a budget.

While stars are rich enough to afford expensive treatments, personal trainers and nutritionists, most of the average population doesn’t have the means for it. Nicole Kidman, however, proves that staying fit doesn’t need to be too complicated.

Nicole Kidman’s Secrets

The multi-award winning actress recently turned 52 but is looking radiant as ever. Of course, apart from being blessed with great genes, Nicole has figured out the secret code to staying healthy even with a hectic schedule, and fortunately, her success formula isn’t too hard to copy.

The plan sounds easy and adoptable – realistically speaking, it is something that’s not like other celebrities’ tedious routines that either restrict your diet or involve grueling workouts for hours, six days per week.

Nicole’s is called the “80-20” diet and it is all about moderation. In an interview in 2013, the “Big Little Lies” actress spoke about how she eats and admitted she was not too strict when it comes to that. However, that doesn’t mean she eats voraciously, it simply means she practices moderation. She is not too restrictive with the things she eats, which is proof that a little indulgence doesn’t hurt.

What Is the 80-20 Diet?

That diet means she eats healthily 80 percent of the time whereas for the remaining 20%, she gives in to her cravings and lets herself enjoy foods she wouldn’t have on a regular basis. However, Nicole admitted that this ratio can often vary because we all know how hard it is to resist certain types of food, which just speaks volumes about the reality of adhering to a diet.

An expert advises adding more whole foods to your diet

According to nutritionist Teresa Boyce, the 80-20 diet is mostly healthy and sustainable. In order to make sure you stay on track, Boyce recommends picking brightly colored fresh produce, healthy fats like nuts, fish, avocados and olive oil, as well as whole grains, and lean protein. The best way to remember this is by imagining a rainbow – but always bear in mind the portion of each food group.

As for the 20 percent, the expert explained that this isn’t all about going all-out, instead, you should think of moderation and portion control. Nicole’s favorite treat is homemade bread with Reggiano, and who could ever resist a bread with melted cheese, right?

Teresa pointed out that with this, you shouldn’t feel guilty for casual slip-ups but always be cautious if you’re making this as an excuse to eat unhealthy food all the time.

Exercise

Nicole grew up in an active family, which is why she loves her morning jogs, and even running for marathons. She narrated how, as a young girl, she would be woken up very early in the morning by the sound of footsteps as her father sprinted up and down the yard, which explains why she fell in love with running. Hard work paid off because she follows this habit to this day.
