Most movies are based on original scripts or they might be book adaptations, however, some are inspired by real-life stories that couldn’t have come from anyone’s imagination. This is also the case for the movie Selena which is based on the real-life story of Selena Quintanilla who was murdered by Yolanda Saldivar.

Often artists have to undergo complete make-overs in order to look-alike the real-life characters they are portraying. Jennifer Lopez, on the other hand, was the perfect fit for portraying Selena. Not only do they only look alike, but they are also both of Hispanic descent. Since both of them were raised in a similar background it must have been much easier for Jennifer to slip into Selena’s character.

In general, Jennifer Lopez has been doing a great job as an actress and singer. Who doesn’t love her in the movie ‘Wedding planner’ and don’t you catch yourself sometimes singing “I’m still, I’m still, Jenny from the Block.”

Selena Quintanilla was one of the most beloved singers of tex-mex when she was killed in 1995 by the president of her fan club and director of her fashion boutiques, Yolanda Saldívar. Jennifer Lopez was a burgeoning star when she got the opportunity to play the role of the late singer in the biopic Selena, which showed Selena’s life from her childhood until her untimely death.

This movie put Lopez in the spotlight and exponentially increased her fame. She went as far as sleeping in Selena’s former bed at her family home, trying to gain a sense of who she had been in order to do her justice on the screen.
