Experts Reveal Healthiest Morning Routines You Need to Adopt in Your Life
Nothing beats a good night sleep as a way to recharge the body after a tiring day. Waking up, on the other hand, is a more difficult thing to do. The moment we open our eyes, our brain becomes flooded with the constant argument of whether hitting the shower or skipping work.
Having a healthy morning routine is found to boost energy all throughout the day. It is also common that a morning person is healthier than a nocturnal owl. Not everyone appreciates to get up early in the morning, but with the proper routine and mindset, rising up early is definitely better. Try to transition from being a snoozer to a go-getter by these following routines.
Stop snoozing the alarm
The default setting of our body when it comes to alarms is hit the snooze button. We want to squeeze in five more minutes of our sleep, and we sometimes end up getting late. It might be tempting to get those extra minutes but snoozing can make us even more restless. Our body won’t immediately go back to a relaxed state after hearing the alarm, making us more tired. Getting up may be difficult, but just like everything else, the body can be trained. We have to train our bodies to get up when the alarm rings.
Linger a little bit
Lingering and snoozing back is totally different. Make sure to wake up at the very first alarm, but that doesn’t necessarily mean to get up immediately. Lingering in bed helps the body wake up at a steady pace. Don’t force the body to get-going; everything needs a little bit of warm up. Try to listen to inspirational videos while enjoying the comforts of the bed. Studies also show that before getting up, people must observe the 30-30-30 rule. It means to sit on the bed for 30 seconds, drop the legs without touching the ground for another 30, and another 30 seconds for putting both feet on the ground. This will help the blood flow through the body at a steady pace.
Experts recommend 7-8 hours of sleep to adults. That means the body can’t receive the proper volume of liquid during those hours. Drinking a glass of warm water with lemon first thing in the morning is an excellent way to get the body going. The water must be warm so the body won’t get shocked since it would be the first thing that will pass through after hours.
Some people also prefer drinking lemon water since lemon is a good source of Vitamin C and it kicks off the metabolic processes. Prepare hot lemon water and put it on the bedside table so there’s no reason for forgetting it.
A good stretch can make a lot of difference throughout the day. It helps wake up the muscles and get them ready for another busy day. A stretch does not have to be effortful, a 5-minute routine can already do the trick. Stretching can then lead to a more advanced one like yoga or Pilates. Hitting the gym early in the morning is also a recommended activity. For people who find it hard to exercise in the morning, start small, like stretching, and then gradually progress to more difficult routines.
Wake up, drink the lemon water, and meditate. Meditating is good in calming the brain. It helps us focus on the more important things, and brush off the petty ones. We have to bring back the energy to ourselves rather than the people surrounding us.
A 5-minute meditation helps lessen the burnout and stress from work or school. Remember to count all the good things that are happening and avoid dealing with negative thoughts. People who meditate are found to be more energetic and productive throughout the day.
Eat a healthy breakfast
Skipping breakfast can sometimes make us cranky and easily angered. This is because we have deprived the body of the nutrients it needs to function. A healthy bowl of oats, an avocado toast, and a smoothie are good breakfast ideas for people who don’t have too much time to prepare a full-course breakfast. Make sure to eat healthy at the very first meal to avoid overeating and unwanted snacking. This will also set the body for a healthier state. Try skipping the greasy breakfast menus like bacon and sausages- this will only promote unhealthy eating.
